A Foreign Office travel advisory for Australia has been issued in the wake of Sunday’s terrorist shooting at Sydney’s Bondi Beach.
At least 15 people were killed and dozens injured when two gunman targeted an event to mark the first day of the Jewish celebration Hanukkah.
Security around major events and gatherings in Australia is likely to be enhanced following the incident.
A Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) update said: "You should follow local authorities’ instructions at all times and ensure you arrive in plenty of time to navigate any additional procedures in place to keep you safe."
The FCDO previously said: “A number of people were killed and injured on 14 December in a terrorist shooting on Sydney’s Bondi Beach.
"Emergency services advise people to avoid the area. Police investigations are underway.
“You should follow the local authorities’ advice. New South Wales (NSW) Police Public Information and Inquiry Centre (PIIC) has been activated (contact number: 1800 227 228).
"If you are concerned about someone who may have been in the area at the time, or need assistance yourself, please contact the British Consulate in Sydney (available 24/7 on +61 2 9247 7521).”
