Riviera Travel offers extended land tour itineraries on 2024 river cruises

Riviera Travel is offering four river cruises with extended land tour itineraries for 2024.

The itineraries were introduced last year and have been relaunched following “positive demand and feedback from guests”, the operator said.

Included is the Burgundy, the River Rhone and Provence River Cruise with Lake Geneva and Golden Pass Extension itinerary which comprises a seven-night Rhone cruise with three nights in a hotel in either Lausanne or Montreux.

The cruise includes seven visits and tours, including Lyon, Arles, Avignon and Vienne, a wine tasting in Beaune, and excursions to the Ardèche Gorges, Popes’ Palace and the Pont du Gard, while the extension includes four visits and tours to Chillon Castle, a Lake Geneva cruise, and a journey on the Golden Pass train. Available from April to October, prices start from £2,578.

The Rhine Cruise to Switzerland with Glacier Express Extension itinerary is also included. Passengers will spend seven nights cruising the Rhine, one night in a hotel in Chur or Davos and two nights in Zermatt.

The cruise offers seven visits and tours including guided tours of Strasbourg, Koblenz, Rüdesheim and Speyer, a drive through the Black Forest to Titisee, a full-day excursion to Lucerne and the Bernese Oberland, and a visit to Breisach.

Passengers can opt to take the extension pre or post-cruise and travel on the Glacier Express railway, and take an optional excursion to Gornergrat via cog railway for views of the Matterhorn.

Prices for the itinerary, which is available from June to September, start from £2,898.

The Douro, Porto and Salamanca River Cruise with Lisbon Extension itinerary is made up of seven-night Douro cruise and a three-night hotel stay in Lisbon.

The cruise includes eight guided visits and tours including lunch and a flamenco show, a guided tour of Porto with wine sampling, tasting at a typical Portuguese quinta, and visits to Castelo Rodrigo, Mateus Palace gardens and Lamego, while the extension includes a guided tour of Lisbon and the Monastery of Jeronimos, visits to Sintra and Fatima, and a tour of Coimbra University.

Prices for the itinerary, which is available from April to October, start at £2,128.

The Blue Danube with Budapest Extension itinerary comprises a seven-night Danube cruise and a three-night post-cruise hotel stay in Budapest.

The sailing departs from Budapest and calls at Vienna, Salzburg or Linz, Dürnstein, Bratislava and Esztergom, while the extension includes visits to the Budapest’s parliament building, national gallery and Palinka Museum with a tasting, a drive through the outskirts of the Puszta to an equestrian park to watch a horse show and have a traditional Hungarian lunch, and an optional visit to Széchenyi Spa Baths.

Available from April to October, the lead-in price for the itinerary is £1,878.

All river cruises are full board with welcome cocktails and dinner with the captain.
