Discovery Princess to be deployed in Australia in 2025-26

Current Princess Cruises’ flagship Discovery Princess is to be deployed from Sydney for the 2025-26 Australian summer season.

The 3,660-passenger ship will be the largest the line has ever based in the country in 50 years of operations from Australia.

The vessel, which entered service last year, will run a series of itineraries from Sydney from October 2025.

Details are due to be released on November 15 with the programme open for sale on November 29.

Discovery Princess is the the sixth and final royal-class ship to be built and the third designed from the ground up with Princess MedallionClass technology.

The ship will be positioned in Australia with Crown Princess and Grand Princess as part of the 2025-26 programme to be revealed in full next month including what the line claims will be the longest world cruise yet.

News of the deployment came as 3,560-passenger Royal Princess positioned in Sydney for its inaugural season of cruising from Australia.

The ship will sail locally alongside Coral Princess, Majestic Princess and Grand Princess during the 2023-24 southern hemisphere summer season, representing a 44% rise in capacity.

Princess Cruises’ president John Padgett was in Sydney to welcome Royal Princess on its debut schedule of sailings from Australia.

He said: “Nearly half a century has passed since Princess Cruises introduced the Pacific Princess ship to Sydney’s shores.

“In commemoration of this milestone, we are delighted to unveil the future deployment of the Discovery Princess today, further solidifying our belief in the Australian market.

“We are confident that both our international and Australian guests will be excited about the spectacular experience aboard Discovery Princess as she sails from Sydney in late 2025.”

Padgett added: “Discovery Princess will continue to set new standards for premium cruising when she sails from Australia in the 2025-26 summer season. She’s an incredible ship with many wonderful features for our guests, from superb cuisine to world-class entertainment and facilities.”

The line’s first Sphere-class ship, the 4,300-passenger Sun Princess, is set to enter service in February in the Mediterranean. The first liquefied natural gas-powered ship in the fleet is due to visit Southampton on September 22-23 next year.
