Three people from the UK died in the Lisbon funicular crash which killed 16, Portuguese police have said.
One of the Glória funicular’s two carriages derailed on Wednesday evening near Avenida da Liberdade and crashed into a building. The line is popular with tourists.
Portuguese police said three British nationals were among those who died, the BBC reported, but further details about them have not been released.
People from Portugal, South Korea, Switzerland, Canada, Ukraine, France and the US were also among the dead, police said.
More than 20 people were also injured, five of them critically.
The Glória opened in 1885 and was electrified in 1915. It can carry about 40 people at a time and is said to be used by about 3 million people a year, including many visitors to the city.
