A fresh warning of delays to holidaymakers using Palma airport in Majorca over Easter has been issued by Tui.
A strike by workers who carry out security screening started on Friday and is due to run until Easter Sunday (March 31).
The industrial action follows an earlier warning by Jet2 of longer waiting times due to maintenance work being carried out at Spain’s third largest airport which handles 30 million passenger a year. Flights will also switch to Terminal A from March 27.
Tui issued the alert to passengers due to travel to the Balearic island this week.
The operator said the “potential situation” may cause delays to passengers flying from Palma airport between March 22-31.
“The security screening company, Trablisa, has begun an unannounced strike which is expected to continue until March 31st. This may lead to longer queues and waiting times at security checkpoints,” Tui said.
“There is a possibility that your flight could be delayed due to security screening delays.
“We recommend that you factor in additional time for security checks when arriving at the airport.”
Passengers using the airport are being advised to proceed directly to the security area after checking in.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding,” Tui added.
Iberia ground service workers went on strike in early January. The walkout caused some flight cancellations and delays.
