Ryanair and Wizz Air both reported a jump in passenger carryings in May.
The Irish no-frills carrier handled 15.4 million passengers in the month, up from 1.8 million in May 2021.
The airline operated 88,400 flights with an improved load factor of 92%.
The number of carryings has risen from 9.5 million in December and was up from 14.2 million in April.
Meanwhile, Wizz Air flew 4.1 million passengers last month, up by 390% over May 2021 with a load factor of 84.2%.
The eastern European budget airline will cancel a “large number” flights from Doncaster Sheffield airport from June 10.
Pilots and cabin crew have been offered the opportunity to fly out of another base in the UK, the airline said.
