Travel across France threatened by mass March 7 strike action

Travel to France faces disruption on March 7 as unions call for strikes and demonstrations across the country in the latest action against pension reforms.

The planned walkouts follow a national strike last week and earlier in February which forced airlines and train operators into cancellations and delays.

Unions quoted in French media have called on members to “prepare together to bring the economy to a halt” on March 7, with the Paris public transport network a key target.

The Foreign Office warned that more industrial action could also be staged.

Issuing a new travel advisory, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office said: “Several unions have called for cross-sector strike action and demonstrations across France on Tuesday 7 March. Industrial action may start the evening before a strike day and run until the morning after.

“Localised or sector-specific strikes could also occur outside these dates.

“Industrial action may lead to disruption to services. Please check the latest advice with operators before travelling, avoid demonstrations and follow the advice of local authorities.”
