APT to celebrate 95th anniversary with agent incentive

Touring and cruise company APT  is celebrating its 95th anniversary with an agent incentive.

For every APT and Travelmarvel booking an agent makes on August 18, they will be rewarded with £95 worth of Love2shop vouchers, which can be redeemed with most major retailers.

The company was founded in 1927 by 24-year-old Australian mechanic Bill McGeary who responded to a tram strike in Melbourne by turning a truck into public transport.

From there, he set up a company – then called Australian Pacific Coaches – and began branching out into leisure travel, creating day tours and themed weekends, before moving overseas, creating escorted tours to New Zealand.

It was at this time, in the mid-1970s, that the company rebranded to Australian Pacific Tours, or APT.

A Canada and Alaska touring programme was added in 1991, which saw the introduction of journeys by train and cruise ship for the first time, and in 2005, APT added European river cruising holidays to its portfolio.

The company continues to be owned and run by the McGeary family.

Brad Bennetts, head of sales and business development for APT and Travelmarvel, said: “That APT is celebrating its 95th anniversary is a testament to the vision, innovation and commitment of the McGearys.

“This brand was built out of a family’s passion and created to last as they evolve and invest in the company to ensure it remains at the forefront of the sector.

“We are thrilled to share this special moment with our valued travel agent partners and with a reward of £95 in Love2shop vouchers for every booking they make on August 18, they can celebrate this auspicious day with us in style.”
