Abta to hold member conference call on EES

Abta will host a member conference call about the introduction and impact of the EU Entry/Exit System (EES).

The EES, due to launch in November, is a new electronic border process that will register all entries and exits to and from the 29 participating European countries, and will also apply to those with third-country status.

The hour-long video conference call will be hosted by Abta director of public affairs Luke Petherbridge on September 24 at 11am.

Officials from the UK Department of Transport (DfT) and Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) will also join the session.

The call will cover an overview of EES and what it means for travel to Europe, an update on “preparedness” at the UK juxtaposed borders and EU borders and communications activity.

Abta chief executive Mark Tanzer said: “We’re pleased to host this conference call for members to help them understand how EES will work and what it will mean for their business and their customers.

“This is a big change to how people travel to Europe, and it has been in the pipeline for quite some time. We have been doing a lot of work over the last 12 months with the EU and UK officials working on these schemes, to establish how they will work and raise questions on behalf of industry.

“As we get closer to launch, we will be ramping up our communications to members and consumers, so everyone knows what to expect when the system goes live in November.”
