Miles Morgan Travel founder Miles Morgan has said it is “time to move on to the next phase” of his life after selling his business to Hays Travel.
Morgan, who set up Miles Morgan Travel in 2006 after working as sales and marketing director at Thomson Holidays [now Tui], admitted it had been a “tough day” telling staff about the sale but stressed he had “loved every second” of his time at the business.
Speaking on a Travel Weekly webcast, he said: “I knew it was going to be a tough day because I am very proud of the people I represent. It’s been a tough and incredibly rewarding 18 years.

“I’ve loved every single second of it, even the two years of Covid, which made me even more determined to succeed. And so in a bizarre way, I thrived through that as well.”
On his decision to retire from the travel industry, he noted: “At some point, you’ve got to change and move to another phase of your life and that is today for me.”
He now plans to spend more time with his family and travelling.
“It’s a matter of saying, you know what, I’m going to spend more time with the family. I’m going to start behaving like my customers: I’m going to go away more and enjoy myself,” he said.
Joking about why he had decided to retire now, he said: “I was planning on staying in the industry until Travel Weekly started calling me an industry veteran! When you get that kind of tag, you know it’s maybe time to hang up your boots.”
