The Foreign Office has warned of possible travel disruption after a Delta Air Lines aircraft crashed on arrival at Toronto Pearson International airport on Monday.
The CRJ-900 regional jet flipped upside down in wintery conditions when landing on a service operated by Delta subsidiary Endeavor Air from Minneapolis-St Paul.
All 76 passengers and four crew survived with only minor injuries reported following the incident at around 2.15pm local time.
Delta said: “Initial reports indicate there are no fatalities and 18 customers with injuries have been transported to area hospitals. Our primary focus is taking care of those impacted.”
Toronto airport reopened for arrivals and departures at 5pm.
However, the Foreign Office said in updated travel advice for Canada: “Emergency services are responding to the incident. You may experience disruption to your travel plans.
“You should follow @TorontoPearson on X for live updates.”
A Toronto airport spokesperson said: “The cause of the crash is under investigation being led by the Transportation Safety Board.
“A total of 18 injured passengers were transported to hospitals.
“The airport remains open. Passengers are advised to check their flight status before coming to the airport.”
Delta chief executive Ed Bastian said: “The hearts of the entire Delta family are with those affected.
“I want to express my thanks to the many Delta and Endeavor team members and there first responders on site.
“We are working to confirm the details and will share the most current information as soon as it becomes available.”
