Eurotunnel Le Shuttle offers Covid-19 testing packages

Eurotunnel Le Shuttle is offering passengers the chance to buy Covid-19 PCR tests ahead of trips to Europe.

The Folkestone-Calais shuttle operator has partnered with Covid-19 testing company Prenetics to offer discounted prices.

Passengers can buy kits for home tests or opt to visit one of 20 test pods that are available around the UK.

For those taking a test at home, customers will receive step-by-step guidance on the Prenetics website and send their sample via a return envelope to an accredited Prenetics lab.

Deborah Merrens, chief commercial officer at Eurotunnel, said: “Our collaboration with Prenetics makes the testing process as stress free as possible.

“Ensuring that testing procedures are clear and tests are easily obtainable will be key to instilling consumer confidence in travel this summer.

“Travelling on Eurotunnel Le Shuttle means that passengers stay in the comfort of their own car and are not mixing with other holidaymakers.”

Avi Lasarow, chief executive of health diagnostics business Prenetics UK, said: “Covid-19 testing for travellers is going to be necessary for the medium to long term and Prenetics offers one of the most comprehensive and competitive testing packages in the market today, helping us all make steps back to normal life.”

Eurotunnel Le Shuttle said it is seeing an increase in bookings and hopes that France will be included in the green list by the main summer holiday period.

A PCR fit-to-travel test costs £57 and an in-person PCR fit-to-travel test costs £104.50.

Both offer results within 24 hours after receipt at the laboratory.

For travellers returning to the UK, a ‘Day 2 and 8’ package of tests for those arriving from an amber country, costs £155.80.

An in-person PCR test for day two, five or eight costs £104.50.

An optional ‘test to release’ kit for day five of quarantine is £93.10.

Currently travellers from the UK aged 11 or over travelling to France require a negative result from a PCR test taken in the previous 72 hours.

France is currently on the UK’s amber list.
