Thai Airways International expects to run flights as normal during Monday’s planned political protests in Bangkok.

The airline warned passengers travelling to Suvarnabhumi airport on January 13 to avoid certain roads in the Thai capital and to leave extra time to reach the airport.

Thai’s ticketing services at its head office and at a government complex on Chaengwattana Road will close due to the street protest in the area.

However, ticketing locations in the city such as Larn Luang, Silon and at Suvarnabhumi airport are due to open as normal.

Senior executive vice president of commercial and acting president Chokchai Panyayong said: “During the period of the political protest in Bangkok starting on January 13, Thai will operate as normal with no flight cancellations, no unplanned flight delays and no reduction of staff in operational areas.

“To avoid arriving late for flights due to street closures, we advise passengers to leave for Suvarnabhumi airport at least four hours prior to their scheduled flight departure time.”

Passengers can keep updated throughout the protest by visiting Thai’s Facebook page, Twitter account, and website.

James Ramage, group managing director, sales and marketing for Diethelm Travel Group in Bangkok, said: “The anti–government demonstrations in Bangkok have been peaceful and their leaders have pledged not to close down airports, BTS sky trains or MRT metro system, which will operate normally.

“We are continually monitoring the situation and want to stress that to date no tourists have been targeted during any demonstration.”

He added: “Diethelm Travel has contacted clients who may be effected by the demonstrations on January 13, as we anticipate inconvenience caused by anti-government demonstrations resulting in traffic disruptions and delays.

“Life in Bangkok and throughout Thailand continues to be normal. We will have a better understanding of the situation on Monday morning the 13th and will update accordingly.”
