Bellamy to take centre stage on green issues

Celebrity botanist Dr David Bellamy is to chair the keynote debate on World Travel Market’s Environment Awareness Day.

Dr Bellamy will be joined by six panelists from private sector and Government organisations – among them Royal Geographical Society deputy director Nigel Winser and Zimbabwe’s Mines, environment and tourism minister Simon Khaya Moyo – to discuss the question ‘Environmental Tourism – Who Needs it?’ WTM director Fiona Jeffery said: “Through our partnership with Green Globe we aim to signpost the route to responsible tourism. We are determined to drive the issues forward and to find viable solutions.”

For the first time, the debate will be held on Earls Court’s centre stage, with seating for up to 150 people. It will be preceded by the presentation of awards for the most Environmental Company and the Environmental Stand. The Green Agent Award will be presented on Thursday November 18 to the agent who shows the most knowledge of green issues in tourism.

The winner of the award, sponsored by Lusotur SA Portugal and TAP Air Portugal, will win a trip to Vilamoura in Portugal to investigate the environmental challenges that the destination faces.
