Orlando tourism chiefs have announced that the destination welcomed 72 million visitors in 2017, including 6.15 million international visitors.
Although exact figures for the UK market were not released, Visit Orlando confirmed that more than a million Brits visited over the 12-month period, cementing its place as Orlando’s number one overseas market.
The overall numbers make Orlando the first US destination to welcome more than 70 million visitors in a year.
George Aguel, chief executive of Visit Orlando, said: “The UK remains Orlando’s number one overseas market with more than one million visitors in 2017. We greatly appreciate our British visitors, as they truly have a long-held special connection with our Orlando destination.”
He added: “Our record-breaking year was achieved despite international headwinds and the state-wide effects of Hurricane Irma.
“In 2017, our destination launched new consumer experiences on a significant scale and our marketing efforts leveraged increasing consumer confidence in the United States.”
