Riu Hotels & Resorts has opened a hotel on Mexico’s Caribbean coast with a new “architectural concept” designed to offer the best views of the sea.
The new Riu Palace Costa Mujeres is the Spanish chain’s 19th hotel in Mexico and its second in Costa Mujeres, following the opening of Riu Dunamar in December 2017.
Instead of having restaurants and bars on the ground floor, the new hotel has its shared areas on the upper floors, so guests can look out over the sea, pools, gardens and the large beach while dining and drinking.
Luis Riu, chief executive of Riu Hotels & Resorts, said: “With this new hotel, we wanted to fulfil a wish expressed by some of our most loyal customers: to have clear views of the Caribbean while they enjoy food and cocktails.
“To do this, the building has been designed in an innovative way, creating terraces, dining rooms and cosy corners on the first floor to improve our guests’ experience.”
The second hotel with this concept will be Riu Palace Baja California, which opens on December 1.
Guests at the Riu Palace Costa Mujeres can explore nearby attractions such as the Isla Mujeres turtle conservation centre, the pre-Mayan ruins of El Meco and the archaeological remains at El Rey.
