One of the first holiday flights from the UK to Sharm el-Sheikh since a ban was lifted landed on Sunday at the Egyptian Red Sea resort.
The Tui flight from Gatwick was greeted with celebrations in the Red Sea resort. A reception featuring flowers, music and cocktails was held at the airport with local dignitaries.
Flights between the UK and Sharm el-Sheikh were halted in November 2015 after the bombing of a Russian charter flight after take off from the resort’s airport killing all 224 people on board.
The Foreign Office changed its advice against all but essential travel by air to and from Sharm last October, prompting travel firms to put the popular resort back on sale.
Egypt specialist Red Sea Holidays became the first to do so after sourcing weekly flights with Enter Air out of Gatwick from December 22.
EasyJet plans to resume flights to Sharm el-Sheikh from Manchester in June and Gatwick from September.
