Coronavirus: British Airways waives ‘change’ fee for flights

British Airways claims to be the first UK airline to waive its fee for changing or delaying flights as fears continue over the spread of the coronavirus.

The airline announced the new policy would cover new bookings made in the next two weeks, between March 3 and March 16.

It said it had introduced the policy to give passengers more confidence about booking flights on any of its routes.

Chief commercial officer Andrew Brem said: “As some customers may choose to change or delay their travel plans at the moment, it’s important we offer them greater flexibility.  By waiving our change fee our customers can have the added confidence to book a trip with British Airways that suits them.”

The ‘book with confidence’ policy covers all British Airways’ routes with changes available right up to departure.  Any fare difference due to a date change will still apply, however.

It comes amid warnings that the coronavirus crisis means tourism into Europe faces its biggest challenge since the 1991 Gulf War.
