No restrictions are being made on travel to Bahrain, despite violence which led to two people being killed in the third day of anti-government protests.
At least four people have now died since protests flared up this week with riot police firing rubber bullets at demonstrators. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: “The overall level of the advice has not changed; there are no travel restrictions in place in Bahrain.”
But it added: “There is the continuing possibility of demonstrations being held in Bahrain in the coming days. We cannot confirm in advance what level of disruption this may cause, and for now we are not advising UK residents or UK travellers to Bahrain to take any special steps beyond those already given in this travel advice.”
Thousands of protesters, encouraged by uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia, took to Bahrain’s streets this week demanding more say in the Gulf Arab kingdom where a Sunni Muslim family rules over a majority Shi’ite population.
