Flybe to increase domestic schedule as fleet expands

Reborn regional carrier Flybe will offer flights from Heathrow to Newquay and Glasgow to Southampton this winter is it ramps up its schedule.

Flybe will also add Birmingham-Belfast City, and East Midlands-Belfast City services for the winter.

All the new flights will operate from October 30.

The carrier will continue to offer flights to Amsterdam Schiphol from Belfast City, Birmingham, East Midlands and Heathrow this winter, and said flight frequencies will increase through the winter and next summer as its fleet expands.

Flybe relaunched in April under the ownership of US hedge fund Cyrus Capital Partners after entering administration in March 2020.

Cyrus Capital was involved in the aborted Connect Airways consortium with Virgin Atlantic and Stobart Aviation which acquired the original Flybe in February 2019.

A company linked to Cyrus Capital bought the Flybe name from the administrators in October 2020.

The carrier is based at Birmingham airport and operates a second base at Belfast City. Its first flight was between Birmingham and Belfast on April 13 this year.

Flybe operates a fleet of five, 78-seat turboprop aircraft.

Chief executive Dave Pflieger said: “After a successful 2022 launch and summer season, we’re excited to announce our new winter schedule, which enhances affordable connectivity across UK regions, as well as our popular flights to Amsterdam.”

Fares start from £34.99 one-way.

Flybe was originally launched in 1979 as Jersey European Airways and from 1983 was owned by steel maker Jack Walker.

It was renamed British European in 2000 and Flybe in 2002.
