Eleven agents from three agencies in Sunderland registered to attend a dinner event, hosted by Hayes andJarvis and the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism, but not a single one turned up.
Hayes and Jarvis business development officer Mark Hopper said he was disappointed by the no show.
“I really think it is shocking that tour operators and tourist offices go to such time and expense to educate agents and they do not even bother to turn up,” said Hopper.
“We couldn’t even give a way a trip to the Cayman Islands.”
Cayman Islands Department of Tourism regional manager Europe Donald McDougall said he was disappointed, although events generally do have some no-shows.
He added that they held a dinner in Newcastle where 50 out of 51 agents attended.
