Warner starts ocean cruise programme

WARNER Holidays has introduced its first ocean cruise for 2001 and is planning to operate a significantly larger programme in 2002 if it proves a success.

The company is offering a 12-night cruise to the Norwegian fjords out of Harwich on May 2 next year on the three-star 450-passenger ship Funchal. Prices start at £849 per person.

Marketing director Marc Jones said if the initiative turned out to be a success, it was possible the company would charter a ship for the whole summer 2002 season.

“I am not interested in doing anything as a one-off,” he said. “We will expand the programme for 2002 or we will drop it.”

Jones claimed the first ocean cruise had been prompted by the success of Warner’s river cruising programme and research undertaken among existing customers.

“A lot of them currently go on cruises and they want to see us enter that market,” he said.

Meanwhile, Warner plans to expand its river cruising programme from six trips to at least 10 in 2002.

The company currently operates cruises on the Dutch and Belgian canals and the Rhine but it intends to add the Moselle next year.
