Hoverspeed launches dedicated agents’ site

Operator responds to requests from trade

FAST-FERRY operator Hoverspeed is developing a dedicated travel agents’ site on its Internet pages in response to requests from retailers for an on-line booking facility.

The new site is being tested this month and it is planned for launch at the beginning of next month. Agents will need to register to use the site before setting up an account. To make a booking, they then log on and enter their password, which sets up their account and their ABTA number.

Agents can register now by e-mailing database@hoverspeed.co.uk.

A Hoverspeed spokesman said the trade has requested an on-line booking facility and cited a letter that appeared in Travel Weekly on July 31, which complained that none of the ferryoperators offer a travel agents’ section on their Web sites.

Meanwhile, Hoverspeed has developed an on-line shopping service where passengers can pre-order wine, beer, spirits and perfume at continental prices up to 48 hours before they travel.

Passengers who log on to the site at www.hoverstore.co.uk select goods by placing them in an electronic shopping basket. They then pay on-line at the ‘check-out’ by credit or debit card.

The order is confirmed by e-mail, which the passenger then shows on arrival at one of Hoverspeed’s land-based Hoverstores in Calais, Boulogne or Dieppe in France and Ostend in Belgium in order to collect their goods. Hoverspeed will deliver foot passengers’ goods back to the UK departure port.
