Ebookers.com starts selling electronic tickets on Web site
EBOOKERS.COM has started selling electronic tickets on its Web site. The on-line agency has been trialling the system with British Airways and United Airlines and has received between 20 and 25 bookings a day.
Ebookers.com is also speaking to American Airlines and hopes to have more carriers on board within the next three months. Customers using the e-ticketing system will be sent a confirmation e-mail of their flight. They will then take their passport and credit card to the relevant airport check-in desk to collect the tickets.
Ebookers.com takes up to 500 bookings per day, and is looking for 30% of future transactions to be carried out via e-ticketing. The agency’s chief executive officer Dinesh Dhamija said the move would save between £1-£2 for each ticket sold, despite the fare.
“Think of the time it takes to write a ticket, process it and send it. If you sell 500,000 tickets a year and 10% are through e-ticketing, then you’ll save about £100,000,” he said.
