Why do Scots bear cost ofsupplements?
With regard to the recent correspondence on British Airways’ Fresh Approach to agents’ remuneration, could I draw your readers’ attention to an old chestnut – flight supplements from regional airports.
How can companies such as JMC (which is not alone) justify a high season flight supplement of £175 per person from Glasgow to Alicante? The equivalent flight from Gatwick doesn’t carry any supplement.
The usual argument is different airports, landing charges and more fuel. But why do operators still charge exorbitant transatlantic flight supplements from Scotland when the flights travel less distance? London-New York flights have been in the air nearly one hour by the time they pass over Glasgow en route to the Atlantic.
