British Airways
The UK flag carrier was the first to install sleeper seats in first class and then the first to introduce flat-bed seats in business class. Its Club World seat is now available on almost half of its long-haul fleet and is continuing to be rolled out to all aircraft.
In first class, British Airways has flat-beds that stretch to 6ft 6ins when completely reclined and include a special seat that allows colleagues or friends to join up for a meeting or meal.
The seats in Club World have a pitch of just over 6ft and were fitted as part of a £200 million programme of improvements. Seats are configured in forward-facing, backward-facing pairs to create a ‘lounge in the sky’. Fewer seats allow for 30% more personal space than in the previous Club World cabins.
In the past year, BA has also invested £50 million in improvements to its short-haul business product, Club Europe. Cabins have been completely refurbished with new luxury seats, carpets and curtains. Meanwhile, new menus were introduced in Club Europe and a contemporary catering product, ‘All Day Deli’, was launched in Euro Traveller.
