WORLDWIDE
hotel rates are cheaper if booked on the Internet, new research has found.
The study
by hotel reservation system provider Pegasus Solutions compared prices for
rooms booked on global distribution systems with those booked on the Internet.
Pegasus found the average daily room rate booked on the web last year was £68,
down from £76 the previous year. On a GDS, the ADR was £91, down from £92
compared to the year 2000.
Discount
websites, where the hotel brand is masked, were found to be 35-40% cheaper than
single-brand sites. Meanwhile, minor third-part sites with reservation volumes
of less than 20,000, were found to perform well with an ADR of around the £90
mark.
