HOLIDAY AUTOS SLAMS CONSORTIUM BOSSES

HOLIDAY Autos managing director Doug Sawers has
blasted consortium bosses for “bleating on about increased commission” while
their agents are failing to sell car rental properly.

The furious broadside comes after Holiday Autos
mystery shopped a range of agents and found just 12% of independents offered
car hire when asked about flight-only to Malaga next summer. Only 40% mentioned
car hire when prompted about transfers from the airport to the resort.

“All we hear from the consortia is
demands to raise pay by one or two percentage points, yet their agents are
missing out big time,” fumed Sawers. “A British Airways flight to Europe gives
agents just £5 in commission. A £200 car-hire booking would be worth £40. They
want more money for little effort. A destination such as Malaga is an easy sell
– we are being let down.”
