Competition: Get a taste of world cup fever

Castle HohenzollenAs football fever builds in the run-up to the 2006 World Cup, Travel Weekly has teamed up with the state of Baden-Württemberg to offer one lucky reader and their partner the chance to see the region’s sights.

We are running a competition to spend three days in early April in the southwest region of Germany where six World Cup matches will be held this summer, including the game to decide the third place team.

The winning couple will get the chance to watch a Bundesliga game, the German equivalent of the Premiership, between VfB Stuttgart and 1. FC Nuremberg at Stuttgart’s Gottlieb-Daimler 54,000-seater stadium.

They will also stay at the Schlosshotel Bühlerhöhe, which will soon welcome the English football team through its doors. But Baden-Wurttemberg is keen to show what else it has on offer to increase bookings to the region through the UK trade and capitalise on World Cup fever.

Gottlieb-Daimler StadiumThe region is famous for its cuisine, with 52 top-rated restaurants in the region, 1,500 museums, theatres, concert halls and opera houses, and landscapes such as the Black Forest, the Neckar Valley, Swabian Alb and Lake Constance.

Among its top sights are Hohenzollern Castle and Meersburg, Germany’soldest inhabited castle on the edge of Lake Constance. For the more adventurous, Germany’s biggest theme park, Europa-Park, in Rust, features a football arena experience and Europe’s bigget rollercoaster the Silver Star.
