HAND luggage restrictions at UK airports are set to change again in November, for the fourth time since August 10, as security measures are standardised across Europe.
In most respects the rest of Europe will be brought into line with current UK and US practice, following an agreement at the European Commission.
Passengers will be limited to one carry-on bag, with the same maximum size as at the moment in the UK (56cm x 45cm x 25cm), although some airlines will insist on smaller.
Laptops will have to be removed for screening at security, but these and other items such as handbags will not be allowed in addition to the one-bag rule. Toiletries will be allowed within strict limits.
Passengers will be limited to carrying liquids, gels or toothpaste in nothing larger than a 100ml container.
Any toiletries in cabin luggage will have to fit in a transparent bag no bigger than one litre in size.
The date on which the rules come into force has not been set, but the Department for Transport stressed the restrictions will be mandatory, with no return to the relaxed cabin luggage rules at some airports prior to the August security alert.
