Agreement confirmed for two new Marella Cruises ships

Italian ship builder Fincantieri has confirmed an agreement to build two new ships for Marella Cruises.

The Tui UK & Ireland brand is commissioning new-build vessels for the first time, representing a new strategic partnership for Fincantieri.

The two vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2030 and 2032, referred to by Tui as financial years 2031 and 2033.

Tui Group last week disclosed plans for two new-build ships for its UK cruise arm.

“Designed specifically for the British market, the ships will focus on environmental sustainability, elegant design, high-quality materials, and spacious accommodation, redefining the premium cruise experience,” Fincantieri said.

The company already has a strong relationship with Tui Cruises, the joint venture between TUI AG and Royal Caribbean Cruises.

Fincantieri delivered Mein Schiff Relax in February, the first of two next-generation dual-fuel  – Liquefied Natural Gas and Marine Gas Oil – cruise ships for the German brand.

A second vessel, Mein Schiff Flow, is under construction and is set for delivery in 2026.

Fincantieri chief executive and general manager Pierroberto Folgiero said: “We are proud to welcome Marella Cruises as a new customer and to support its vision as it enters the newbuild segment.

“This agreement is a testament to Fincantieri’s ability to forge strategic partnerships with an expanding client base, reinforcing our long-term visibility and ensuring a high level of capacity saturation for our shipyards.

“The project will bring together our expertise in ship design, innovation, and sustainability to deliver vessels that meet the evolving expectations of modern cruise passengers.”
