Travel agents from across the UK got a glimpse behind the scenes at Disneyland Resort Paris’ 15th anniversary celebrations during a sneak preview trade event last week.
Around 100 UK agents travelled by Eurostar for the three-day trip, during which Disney showcased new additions for 2007. Among the attractions under construction are two rides: Crush’s Coaster, based on the animated film Finding Nemo; and Cars Race Rally, based on the film Cars.
Both are due to open in Walt Disney Studios Park next June.
A third ride, Twilight Zone Tower of Terror (based on an existing ride at Walt Disney World), is due to open by early 2008. A select few agents were allowed on to the construction sites to see the new rides taking shape.
In a presentation to agents, Disneyland Resort Paris vice-president of entertainment Francois Leroux unveiled Disney’s Once Upon a Dream Parade, to launch in April 2007.
Disney is also planning to offer more character ‘meet and greet’ opportunities with the opening of the Toon Town area in the Studios Park, and the Disney Character Express train, which will transport characters down Main Street in Disneyland Park.
The agents also got to experience a variety of accommodation options available, including the Davy Crockett Ranch, around 15 minutes’ drive from the park, which is aimed at self-drive customers.
Disneyland Resort Paris vice-president UK and international parks and resorts Peter Welch said the resort’s big objective for 2007 is to showcase the 15th anniversary product. “These fam trips are critical to Disney. This year we want to bring even more agents here.”
Welch added there will be a megafam in March for more than 500 UK agents, with further educational trips due throughout the year.
Assistant manager of Going Places in Broughton Park, Chester, Siobhan Brady- Williams said: “The fam has been absolutely brilliant. Every time I come here it just gets better. The trip will definitely help me to sell Disney better.”
