BRITISHAirways is planning a deal with one of the global distribution system suppliers to save money on the running of its outdated reservations system.
The airline hopes to tender out or sell off its British Airways Booking System early next year under a commitment to save costs.
A BA spokeswoman said: “We want the most cost-efficient system and may get a partner to operate BABS. The likes of Sabre or Amadeus have more technologically-advanced systems. We may invite them to tender.”
BA is expected to continue to use BABS after a partner has taken it over.
This financial year, BAhas set itself a target of £225m in cost reductions. Savings will include cutting back on 300 managers out of 1,000 positions. This is on top of £1bn already cut out of its businesses.
n BA is to go to the High Court to seek backing for its plan to merge its two pension programmes after pensioners voted against the proposal. A spokesman confirmed a hearing would be held early next year.
