The Travel Trust Association is to promote the benefits of financial protection to consumers who buy holidays from its members.
It is the first time the TTA has raised its profile through a public awareness drive and it has employed former ABTA head of corporate affairs Keith Betton to spearhead the campaign.
TTA director Todd Carpenter said: “There are issues that TTA should speak out about on behalf of its members. At the same time we want travellers to realise the benefits of TTA protection.”
Betton said financial protection offered by the TTA meant consumers could ask for automatic cover in the event of fraud, which recent research shows is on the rise in the travel industry.
The TTA has 420 members, including travel agents, tour operators and airlines.
