GAP Adventures is launching an urgent appeal to raise money for earthquake survivors in Peru.
The earthquake, measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale, struck at the end of last month and killed about 500 people, injured about 1,600 people and made many more homeless. The country has since suffered another earthquake measuring 5.9 on Friday (August 17).
The adventure travel specialist will pass all donations through its foundation Planeterra to the Canadian Red Cross Society to support relief efforts for those needing food shelter and medical aid in the worst hit areas.
Chief executive Bruce Poon Tip said: “GAP Adventures is eager to provide immediate assistance and long-term support to these communities to which we travel.
“We are also committed to encouraging support of the region by matching all donations to double the impact.”
