Long weekend: On a city break in Copenhagen you can shop in pretty old streets, take a canal tour, have afternoon tea or visit a microbrewery. Check out the Museum of Modern Art, take in an opera or head to Vega bar for great music.

One week: Fly to Aalborg and explore north and west Jutland. Stroll through Aalborg’s cobbled streets and visit the medieval monastery and zoo before jumping in a car and heading up the east coast to Saeby.

Continue to Skagen with its vast dunes before heading west to check out the coast with its wide beaches and fishing villages such as Hirtshals.

Two weeks: Fly to Billund Airport in Jutland and spend a night and day in Legoland. Head to Ebeltoft on the peninsula of Djursland (north of Aarhus) by car and stay in a rented cottage for a few nights.

Take the ferry across to Sjaellands Odde on Zealand and explore North Zealand, including Roskilde and Hillerod. End the trip with a few days in Copenhagen and fly back from there.
