Business travellers combine work trips with leisure holidays

About 62% of business travellers ‘often’ enjoy trips away from the workplace and almost half tie in leisure time with their trip, according to a worldwide survey by tripadvisor.com.

The site’s annual business travel survey of more than 1,500 people, found that 18% of people ‘always’ enjoy business trips and ‘seeing new places’ topped the list of reasons why.

The British, however, are the least likely to combine business trips with holiday, with only 28% admitting to doing so, compared with 53% of Americans in the survey.

Just over half of those surveyed who fly for business said delays and airport chaos causes the biggest annoyance, resulting in 27% of UK travellers saying they would consider taking a train as an alternative.

As far as hotels go, 59% of travellers ‘often’ stay at the same hotel chain, while 7% ‘always’ do. The greatest motivation to stay at the same hotel chain is the hotel rewards programme. Location and the comfort of rooms were also popular reasons for choosing a hotel.

New York was chosen as the top city for business travellers for the second year in a row, followed by Chicago, London, San Francisco and Washington.
