Four people including three Britons have drowned off the southwest coast of Portugal.
The adults were trying to save their children from strong currents near Sagres in the Algarve when they were washed away in strong currents.
Commander Pedro Pereira, of the Maritime Authority in nearby Lagos, told BBC News 24: “The waters around the rock where they go to swim…it’s relatively calm but they have very strong winds and very strong currents.”
There were no lifeguards on duty as the official summer period in Portugal is now over.
