The Association of Group Travel Organisers is to form a branch in Scotland.
The move is in line with the trade body’s strategy of expanding its network around the UK.
Group organisers, attractions, accommodation providers and operators are being recruited to the new branch, which is being supported by Scottish coach tour operator David Urquhart Travel.
Association chief executive Mike Bugsgang said: “We are extremely excited about this development that has been made possible by the efforts of AGTO member David Urquhart Travel.
“Scotland offers a huge variety of destinations and accommodation for group organisers’ itineraries and the establishment of an AGTO branch in the country will provide a forum for networking between group travel organisers and suppliers to work more closely together.”
David Urquhart Travel marketing manager Emma McMillan said: “We are delighted to have worked with AGTO on this project. Some of the leading group travel organisers in Scotland are being recruited to form the branch and we will be developing a programme of activities including fam trips and events for members in the year ahead.”
VisitScotland trade marketing manager Rona Wallace added: “The plans for an AGTO Scotland branch are very timely as there are myriad of opportunities available for groups in connection to ‘The Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology’ theme in 2017.
“This themed year will cover all parts of Scotland and we are confident it will attract visitors from all over the UK and overseas.”
