Brexit not impacting holiday plans, says Southall Travel

More than one in 10 British travellers are turning their backs on Europe and are more likely to travel long haul this year, a new poll reveals.

Booking data from long-haul specialist Southall Travel shows a slight increase, with sales of holidays up 3% compared to the week before the country went to the polls in the general election.

A survey by the operator of 3,400 holidaymakers shows that the recent election and Brexit have made little impact, with almost three quarters (72%) saying they will continue with their holidays regardless of the outcome.

Just one in 10 are delaying booking their holiday until the new government is in place and Brexit negotiations are in full swing, while just 4% said they would not be taking a holiday this year due to the uncertainty surrounding the recent election and Brexit.

Research also revealed a number of British travellers are concerned about the Brexit negotiations and the impact it may have on the cost of a European holiday.

Southall Travel sales director Jaymin Borkhatria said: “This survey and indeed our booking data confirms that whilst a number of people are delaying booking their holiday, the majority of hard-working British holidaymakers are determined to enjoy their week in the sun and are continuing on as normal.”
