The latest addition to the Cruise & Maritime Voyages’ fleet is to be named Vasco da Gama following a vote by trade partners and passengers.
The previous P&O Cruises Australia ship Pacific Eden will operate under CMV’s German brand, Transocean Kreuzfahrten, from next year.
The vessel will sail from Bremerhaven and Kiel between May and October and from Fremantle and Adelaide during the Australian December to March summer season.
Vasco da Gama’s maiden voyage will depart from Singapore on April 24, 2019, on a 46-night voyage including South East Asia, Egypt, Jordan, the Suez Canal, Israel, the Mediterranean, London Tilbury, Amsterdam and Bremerhaven.
CMV CEO and chairman Christian Verhounig said: “We are grateful to all those Columbus Club members and trade partners who took the time and trouble to vote.
“From the thousands received, the winner is Vasco da Gama with 46% of the total vote.”
Prior to joining P&O Cruises Australia, the 1,260-passenger ship sailed for Holland America Line as Statendam, entering service in 1994.
