Fifty RIU hotels participated in a worldwide coastal clean-up with the collaboration of staff, guests and the local communities.
The initiative was part of the UN BeatPlasticPollution scheme on World Environment Day.
The resort hotel company organised more than 20 clean-ups of coastal areas and beaches in the majority of the destinations where it operates.
This initiative created by the UN, which RIU participated in with more than 20 waste collection drives, united the efforts of all sectors to carry out the world’s largest clean-up.
Almost 50 members of staff in the southern part of Gran Canaria spent the morning covering areas adjacent to hotels next to the Charca de Maspalomas and the Meloneras beach.
Other activity took place in Tenerife, Cape Verde, Portuguese Algarve, Panama, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Mexico Sri Lanka and Mauritius.
