The director of a travel and tourism conference being held as part of the International Business Festival in Liverpool has urged companies to support the event and ensure the sector has its voice heard.
Cheeky Monkey Media has organised the Future Global Opportunities for UK Tourism conference on June 28, and director Simon Greenbury said the industry needed to rally behind the event to challenge misperceptions about the sector.
He said: “At a time when the tourism industry continues to bemoan the fact that the government does not give the sector the attention it deserves, a conference at the three-week International Business Festival – backed by the department for international trade and the UK government – deserves industry attention and support.
“We have lobbied the festival to have a conference dedicated to an industry that provides nearly 10% of UK GDP and supports around 3.8 million jobs.
“Having achieved that objective, it is in the sector’s interests to come together to learn, engage and collaborate together – to start creating a blueprint of what a new world tourism order will look like for the industry in the future.”
Greenbury added: “We have brought together some of the industry’s innovators and disruptors to tackle key issues impacting all sectors.
“Let’s show the government why tourism is so important to the UK economy and deserves a higher profile voice and influence. If we do not support each other as an industry, then we lose a little of the right to be heard.”
