ABTA is urging holidaymakers to think of central and eastern Europe for a value holiday.
The trade organisation says with sterling at a historic low against the Euro, central and eastern Europe offer favourable exchange rates for the person looking for a bargain holiday.
It says in countries such as the Baltic states of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia a two course meal costs the equivalent of between £5 and £7 including alcohol while beer is widely available at less than £1 a pint.
All of the countries concerned are served by specialist ABTA tour operators and have benefited from an increasingly extensive network coverage by scheduled airlines.
