GOING Places’ new managing director Terry Fisher is taking his plans for the retailer to heart – literally.
Travel Weekly readers will have gathered from our exclusive interview with Fisher last week that the beefy northerner wants a leaner, meaner retailer for the new millennium. Well, now he’s decided to set a personal example.
The self-styled ‘most eligible bachelor in Woking’ is losing weight to make himself even more desirable. Remember, that cheeky smile and the millions in his back pocket from the sale of Travelworld have already made him a decent catch.
Six-foot Fisher used to weigh in at 17-and-a-half stone, but dramatic cutbacks in food and alcohol intake have had the desired effect.
“I’m under 15 stone for the first time since the day I was born,” said Fisher. “The target is 14 stone.”
During the interview, the disciplined Fisher ordered a Diet Coke and, when a pot of tea came around, asked for ‘just a spot’ of milk.
“You can’t take the mickey out of me, I’ve had it all,” he said. “I’m the bloke who goes to the pub with his mates and orders six pints of Stella and a Diet Coke for me. But whatever it is I’m doing, it’s working.”
Mind you, Terry has been known to bow to temptation and was later spotted tucking into a rich pudding after dinner had been served.
Old mate Steve Endacott, who has just launched a £2m telesales venture, was heard to remark:”You can tell him from me, he might be the most eligible bachelor in Woking, but he’s still an uglyÉ”
