Teletext Holidays has signed a deal with supermarket Tesco to open up to 20 retail outlets over the next two years.
Announcing the move at The Travel Convention, Teletext Holidays managing director Victoria Sanders said the first Teletext Holidays’ shop will open on December 2 in Tesco Extra in Pitsea, Essex.
The agencies will be in, or next to, existing Tesco stores.
The locations of the next five stores to open are already earmarked, with two confirmed, and the other three in negotiation with the supermarket chain.
Sanders said the shops will sell product from its sister online travel agency Thisistravel, which already has a range of commercial agreements with operators in place.
The first shop will open from 8.30am-10pm and will also handle any overspill calls from the Thisistravel call centre during busy times.
Sanders said: “This is about brand awareness and it is an exciting move to develop our business.
“In store, customers can access the teletextholiday.co.uk media site on self-service pods, as well as tap into the expertise of a travel agent.
“We have a brand that has become synonymous with great-value last-minute deals, and that fits in very well with Tesco’s core values about quality and choice.”
