All-inclusive resort Club Mac Alcudia in Majorca is replacing more than seven million items of crockery and cutlery with environmentally friendly options.
It is swapping single-use plastic glasses with reusable, cardboard options; limiting the use of plastic drinking straws; and using paper instead of plastic packaging to reduce its environmental impact.
Other items, including plastic cutlery, will be replaced with wooden and sugar-cane versions in a move that will see 7.4 million individual pieces of plastic saved from becoming waste.
Eva Monserrat Llompart, e-commerce and customer relations manager, said: “The environmental impact of Club MAC is important to us all, and we know it’s something that our guests care about too.
“Our ‘going green’ focus is mainly on removing plastic from our products and off the resort completely.”
It has changed the plastic packaging on more than 27,000 Club MAC t-shirts to paper, and replaced 2.2 million clear plastic glasses with Macky recyclable cardboard cups.
An estimated 1.5 million plastic straws have been eliminated and only remain for slushies.
The three-star resort in Port d’Alcudia has eight pools and a water park, and has been popular with British holidaymakers for 30 years.
