Advantage refuses to back member’s undercutting campaign

Advantage Travel Centres will not be backing a campaign launched by one of its members aimed at stopping Thomas Cook and TUI Travel from undercutting agents online.

Advantage commercial director Julia Lo Bue-Said said the consortium had already been in talks with Thomas Cook about the practice, adding the two companies would be launching a joint marketing campaign within the next two weeks.

“We’re not picking the campaign up and we won’t have a public debate about discounting,” she said.

“If there is an issue we will talk to Thomas Cook behind closed doors.”

The pressure group was set up by Kitts Travel managing director Chris Turner and Stowaway Travel director Paul Stowe but is now being run solely by Elite member Turner after Stowe, who is a member of Advantage, pulled out.

Turner said he was still determined to enforce change and was urging more agents to contact him to sign up to the group.
