100 dead in Tripoli flight crash

A passenger aircraft carrying 104 people has crashed at Tripoli airport, Libya.


All but one child died and the Foreign Office said it is “urgently investigating” reports that Brits were on board the Afriqiyah Airways flight from Johannesburg.


It had been due arrive at 0400 GMT and connect with flights to Europe, including the UK, but crashed as it attempted to land.


The airline said 93 passengers and 11 crew of various nationalities, including British, South African and Dutch, were on board the Airbus 330.


The 11 crew members are reported to have been Libyan nationals.


The airport has been sealed off.
