Leeds Metropolitan University has become the first ITT University of Excellence.
Leeds Met was considered to have met standards the institute has drawn up for universities that work closely with travel and tourism and want to be in the accreditation scheme.
ITT and Leeds Met will also launch a new executive programme this autumn that will offer finance training to executives in the industry.
Speaking as he closed the ITT conference in Benidorm today ITT chairman Steven Freudmann said Leeds had passed an “extremely rigorous” process to become a University of Excellence.
Freudmann said this September the new ITT Diploma will start to be taught in the UK and he said student membership continues to grow and now numbered over 2,000.
The institute intends to repeat its Future You event at WTM which attracted 300 delegates in 2009, but is expected to attract double this year.
The event will be moderated by Danny Waine, of Perfect Weddings and Honeymoons, ITT’s first student of the year.
